Roy James Stevenson, 78, son of James and Goldie Campbell Stevenson, was born Sept. 14, 1928. He died Sept. 13, 2007, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis after a short illness.
He joined the Army Oct. 16, 1952, and was honorably discharged Nov. 12, 1960.
He married Phyllis Ann Lay Dec. 27, 1955. They had three daughters.
He later married Melba Young.
Mr. Stevenson retired in 1988 from the U.S. Postal Service in Kansas City.
He was baptized Sept. 15, 1991, shortly after his conversion at the Dawson Assembly of God. He attended Fairview Pentecostal Holiness for the last nine years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one daughter, Loyce; three sisters, Ruby Payne, Lillie Hildebrand and Ethel Stevenson; four brothers, Melvin, Arthur, Alvie and Jim; one stepson, a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter.
Surviving are his daughters, Joyce Rhodenizer and Judy Sisk; one brother, Charlie Stevenson; long-time companion, Mildred Carter; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and four stepchildren.
Services were Sept. 17 at the Fairview Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. John Emery officiating. Burial with full military rites was in the Palace Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
