Royal Sidney Rudd was born March 13, 1846, died March 16, 1912, aged 66 years and three days. The subject of this sketch was born at Fredericksburg, Va. He was married to Rebecca Riffe 35 years ago. To this well mated union were born four children. Two preceded their father to the better world some years ago. Mother, son and daughter, remain to mourn the loss of a loving husband and a fond father. Bro Rudd was a communicant of the Baptist church, being very prominent in all of its connections. He had been a proficient teacher in the public schools, in Summers and Monroe counties for 40 years, and was prominently known by the teachers of both counties. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev W F Hank, in the presence of a large concourse of friends and relatives. Revs H Dillon James Dillon, C M Neff and H W Holdren also took part in the services.
His remains were laid to rest in the Huffman grave yard to await the resurrection morn...

Prof R S Rudd, one of the well known teachers and educators of Summers county, died at his home near Buck, in Forest Hill district, last night of typhoid fever. The burial will take place at the Huffman graveyard on little Wolf Creek tomorrow. Prior to his last illness Prof Rudd had been teaching the Dunn school on New River, just above Packs Ferry. He was a close relative of the gallant Gen Mosby during the Civil War and a member of Mosby's command. Prof Rudd always took an active interest in educational organizations and was one of the best known school men in the county. He leaves a large family and many friends to mourn their loss. He was about 66 years of age.
