Hugh Hagen and John Hagen came from Ireland together in 1750, and settled in this county, but Hugh went to Philadelphia where he fell in with Hugh Campbell, who cared for him and apprenticed him to an edge-tool maker. Campbell left him his fortune, and the Hagens have for years talked of its final coming to them. This Hugh Hagen died a bachelor, in Philadelphia, it is thought, and the money would fall to the heirs of his brother, John Hagen, who had seven children, Joshua, Davis (father of Al. Hagen), Elijah, Enoch, Mrs. Hannah Alexander, Mrs. Abbie Anders, and Miss Mary Hagen. Of these Miss Mary is the only survivor and her co-heirs are six children of Davis Hagen, three children of Elijah Hagen, three children of Mrs. Alexander, three children of Mrs. Anders and one child of Enoch Hagen. (The Lancaster Examiner - April 2, 1890)
