Son of Theodore Ebenezer Jewell and Eliza Jane Mitchell, husband of Blanche Evelyn Cochrane, whom he married on October 23, 1871 and father of Mabel and Herbert E. Jewell.

Obituary - George S. Jewell, died at his home, 102 Macon Street, this morning, in the 52nd year of his age. His death was due to cancer, the disease from which his brother Edward died in November 1888. Mr. Jewell was born in Rochester, New York, in 1849, and came to Brooklyn when a child with his parents, the Theodore E. and Eliza J. Jewell. His father founded the well known flouring mill at the foot of Fulton Street under the firm name of Smith & Jewell. It was afterward owned by Jewell Bros., and was made a corporation in 1880 under the name of Jewell Milling Company, when the deceased was the secretary of the organization, succeeding his brother, Edward. The company was later consolidated as the Jones-Hecker-Jewell Milling Company, and was taken in the flour trust. Jewell's dock was well known as a landing place for excursion boats through the courtesy of the owners. Since then Mr. Jewell had been in the flouring business and later with W.P. Egan, a stockbroker at 57 Broadway, Manhattan. He had been a member of the Twenty-Third Regiment, N.G., N.Y., and was a member of the Veterans' Association. He was also a member of Fulton Council, R.A., and of the New York Produce Exchange. Twenty-nine years ago he married Miss Blanche E. Cochrane, who survives him, as do a son, Herbert E., and a daughter, Mabel. The funeral will be private.
