The heavenly angels came down to bring Margaret I. Kistner, age 59, home on Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007.

Margaret was born on July 20, 1948, to John and Nellie (Simonson) Vlietstra in Jump River, Wis. When Margaret was 2 they moved to California, and then settled in Eau Claire when she was 10. Margaret graduated from Memorial High School in 1966, and the School of Cosmetology in 1968. In 1969, Margaret was blessed with a daughter, Richelle Lee Vlietstra. "Campus Mail" and "Campus Security" were well-known phrases heard by many during her 28 years of employment at UW-Eau Claire. Margaret enjoyed reading a good book, watching scary movies, collecting Coca-Cola items and teapots.

Margaret's participation in family, church and the community made her an exemplary role model to all, including being a host parent to foreign students David Jacon, Aamer Hamza Ali and Yoko. Her love of life and contagious spirit will be missed by all who knew her.

Margaret became a loving wife to Delbert C. Kistner on Feb. 23, 1980, at the ecumenical center at UW-Eau Claire. Through their love a son, Delbert J. Kistner, was born. He joined the family which consisted of five girls, Sherry L. (Gary) Bentley of Eau Claire, Debra J. (Lawrence) Stewart of Brenham, Texas, Shelly A. Bradford of New Auburn, Jody K. Johnson of Eau Claire and Richelle L. (Scott) Shill of Eau Claire.

Margaret's pride and joy were her grandchildren, Kiersten and Keegan Kistner, Dustin Kistner, Nick, Nate and Logan Shill, Jason, Terry and Scott Bentley, Lauren and Preston Stewart, Skyler and Kaylin Johnson; and her two great-grandchildren, Blake and Ariana Bentley. She is lovingly remembered by her sister, Beverly (Bruce) McIlquaham; mother-in-law, Thelma L. Kistner; sister-in-law, Laura Mae Simonson; and many other beloved family and friends.

Many years of friendship were devoted to Debbie Fisher, Verna Farwell, Dar Plemon, Linda Andress and the late Beverly Champion.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Jerome Simonson and Henry Allen Vlietstra; many aunts and uncles.

Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 19, at Evergreen Funeral Home (on Golf Road one block east of Highway 93) and also one hour before service at church.

Following cremation, funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 20, at Plymouth Congregational Church (2010 Moholt Drive, Eau Claire) with the Rev. Jim Schaeffer officiating. Margaret will be laid to rest in the Kistner family plot at Lakeview Cemetery in Eau Claire.

The family wishes to thank the staff of St. Joseph's Home Care, Pine Grove Family Practice, Sacred Heart Hospital and Cancer Treatment Centers of America.
