Larry grew up with five sisters and six brothers. After graduating from Highland High School, he attended Brigham Young University. In 1985, he earned an Associate degree in Applied Science from Idaho State University. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served an honorable mission in the California Anaheim Mission from 1973 to 1975. After working as a steel worker, he was employed by Idaho Department of Health and Welfare as a self-reliance specialist. On November 1, 2013, he and Carol Elaine Powell were married in Idaho Falls Temple for time and all eternity and made their home in Ammon. He retired in 2014 after working 24 years for the State of Idaho. Throughout his life, he enjoyed music and especially singing musical numbers with siblings and family. He played piano, organ and guitar and sang in many choirs and the Pocatello chapter of the Barber Shop Quartet Society. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, reading, attending family reunions and riding his motorcycle. He had a passion for martial arts, studied Japanese Kenpo, reaching the rank of purple belt in 1993. He also enjoyed doing handyman projects around the house and spending time with his children. grandchildren, family and neighbors. He was a kind, gentle and loving person, always quick to lend a helping hand to those in need. He was the kind of neighbor everyone wishes for – thoughtful, helpful, caring and a great friend. Survivors beside Carol Elaine Powell included: daughters Donna Nichole (Lincoln) McDonald of Idaho Falls and Tonya Lee (William) Shomaker of Smiths Station, AL; step-daughter Libby Black; step-sons Peter C. Esta and Ronald J. Esta; and six brothers, two sisters, two grandsons and a granddaughter; preceded by three sisters. Memorial services held Wednesday, October 7th at Ammon 26th Ward Chapel at 1100 S. Tiebreaker. Bishop Brian Nelson officiated.
