Cindy was a life-long resident of Battle Creek, Michigan. She graduated from Lakeview High School in 1964 and from Michigan State University in 1969. She was a VISTA volunteer during her college years. She worked as a teacher and social worker and sold commercial printing for several years. An avid horsewoman since high school, she was a member of the Battle Creek Hunt at the time of her death.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Marjorie C. (Peters) Taylor.

She was survived by her husband, daughter Erin Lucinda Swelnis, father, Duane B. Taylor, and brother, David D. Taylor.

Per her wishes, Cindy's ashes are interred in the forest east of North 42nd Street in Ross Township, Kalamazoo County, near the village of Augusta. Her interment site was originally marked with a wooden sign but is presently unmarked.
