Services for Bernard G. Mattson, Jr., 68, of 1105 McDaniel av., Evanston, former history teacher in Evanston Township High school, will be held at 10 a. m. tomorrow in the chapel at 1567 Maple av., Evanston. In 1964, Mr. Mattson' was honored at Harvard university's commencement ceremonies as one of the outstanding secondary education teachers in the nation. The university gave him a check for $1,200.
After teaching at the school for 44 years, Mr. Mattson retired in 1968. He received his bachelor's degree from Oberlin college, Oberlin, Ohio, and a doctorate from the University of Chicago. He also studied in the London School of Economics for a year. Mr. Mattson died Wednesday in Evanston hospital. Surviving are his widow, Natalie; two sons, Peter and Jeremy; his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Mattson; three brothers; and two sisters.
