Billie was born to the late Carmen and Susan DePascale, on Oct. 12, 1925, in Farrell, Pa. After graduating from Farrell High School, she went to work at Westinghouse Electric Corp. Shortly thereafter, she met her future husband and best friend, Albert "Al" Stefanick.
She was a small-town beauty queen. He was an engineer with persistence. They were set up on a blind date by friends and were married on Sept. 3, 1949. The two were inseparable from that day until Al passed away on June 4, 2009.
Billie was known for loving everyone she met and caring more for their needs than her own. From working with special-needs children at Mile Creek School in Old Lyme, sharing life's joys and sympathies with customers of her daughter's flower shop, or standing in as deputy grandma for her grandson's schoolmates on Grandparent's Day, she devoted herself to the happiness of others.
She is survived by her children, Veronica McGill of Old Lyme, Judi Toohey of San Antonio, Tex., and Tom Stefanick of Vienna, Va.; five grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; her sister, Gilda Germani of New Castle, Pa.; her brothers, Silvio Depascale of Hubbard, Ohio, and Pat Pellegrino of Hermitage, Pa.
A Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m on Saturday, Dec. 11, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Niantic. Immediately following, she will be laid to rest beside her late husband in the Memorial Garden at St. Ann's Episcopal Church in Old Lyme.
