William Leander Reed has been confused with other William's of the Reed Line from Perryville, MO. His date of death has been mistakenly given in 1866 by some.

I found William Leander Reed's date of death recorded as Dec. 31, 1876. We found it in a combined burial book from the 1870's, maintained by St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, Perryville, MO. Father W.V. Moore CM officiated.

Based on the way Mt. Hope Cemetery is laid out, I believe that William was laid to rest very near his older brother Variece who died 21 Dec 1876. Variece's Headstone still survives but just barely. It is very hard to read. He is located in row 30 plot 24. This is not exactly accurate either. When the Mt. Hope Cemetery book was put together in 1991 they counted only the headstones not the actual plot. From what I learned was around 1976 Perryville was hit by an ice storm that knocked down several trees in Mt. Hope Cemetery, thus damaging or destroying many of the headstones. Since that time many of the graves in the older section of the cemetery have no stones at all, and are not recorded either at St. Vincent's or at Brewer's Monument in Perryville.
