Army veteran of World War I, while in the Army he was ill with influenza, there was an epidemic of influenza in 1918. He had severe complications, pneumonia, ear infections, requiring mastoidectomy in both ears, he remained in ill health the remainder of his life. He had worked as laborer around coal mine operations, in the smelters and was unable to return to that type of work. He drew a Veterans Pension. Died from heart attack while hospitalized in Veterans Hospital in Muskogee.
