Mrs Adelaide Maude Rixon, 97 years, who was born at Khancoban in 1888, passed away in P.A.N.C.H 20th January 1986, following a fall in which she sustained a broken hip, the previous week. The widow of Ossie Rixon, they left Corryong where they reared their family some 30 years ago to live with their war pensioner son Geoff and his family at Mentone. Following the deaths of her husband and son, Addie resided with her daughter, June, at St Kilda for the past few years. Mrs Rixon was a devout Christian. She was an extremely hard-working woman in her early days - never complained, and throughout her life she was loved and respected by all whom she had contact.
At Corryong she was a regular churchgoer. Her love for the Upper Murray and its people was deep rooted, and she had a remarkable memory of Khancoban and Corryong's early history and retained a vivid interest in the area's development. Mrs Rixon was buried on Thursday at the new Cheltenham Cemetery, following a service at St Aldan's Anglican Church, Parkside. The couple reared a family of four: Geoff - deceased, June, Tommy - killed in action, and Fay (Mrs Col McClure); grandchildren: Cyndie Collins, John Rixon and Veronica Marshall and seven great grandchildren.
