Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away peacefully Dec. 6, 2014 with his family by his side on a beautiful, sunny day. Donald Lamar Dickerson was born on February 5, 1925 in Payson, Utah to Ralph James and Alzina Knowlton Dickerson. After graduating from Grantsville High School in 1943 he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. A World War II veteran, he served in the South Pacific on the islands of Oahu and Guam and was discharged in 1945. Don met his sweetheart, Veda Stice, in Sunday School in Grantsville. They were married on August 20, 1948. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on August 19, 1949, and they were married over 66 years. They were blessed with four children, Laurie, Julie, Guy and Barry. He graduated from BYU in 1950, and began his teaching career at North Sanpete High School in Mount Pleasant, Utah where he taught until 1955. He then taught in the math department at Tooele Jr. High School until his retirement in 1987, a total of 37 years. He influenced many lives and many students learned to love math through his dedicated teaching. Don was always at school early and stayed late each day to help students who needed additional help with their assignments. He drove truck during the summer months first for Hatch Company and later for Clark Tank Lines for many years. Don was a faithful member of the LDS church and held numerous positions throughout his life including service as a devoted home teacher, financial clerk, counselor in two bishoprics and as a high councilor for two stake presidents. He was an avid fan of BYU sports and a member of the Cougar club. He attended virtually all home football and basketball games until he could no longer drive the distance and since that time enjoyed them on TV by the fireplace. Don was very ambitious and enjoyed taking care of his home and yard. He could repair almost anything. He had numerous hobbies, including building lamps from wood that he found in the mountains and carpentry work including finishing his family room. He also re-upholstered furniture which he gave to family members and he tore down old buildings at the Army Depot for material used to build the garage and put in the sprinkler system. He was also interested in astronomy and built two telescopes—the kids remember him quizzing them on the names of the craters of the moon. Don loved his family dearly and was greatly loved in return by them. Children: Laurie (Chris) Seals, Julie Ann (George) Winn, Don Guy Dickerson (deceased), Barry (Cheryl) Dickerson. 13 grandchildren. 32 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Guy; brothers - Merwin, Ralph, George, Ted; sisters - Ruth Barrus, Grayce Wagstaff, Donna West; and great granddaughter, Megan. The family would like to thank the many caregivers at Rocky Mountain Care Center, Mountain West Medical Center, the University of Utah Hospital, Pine Mountain Hospice and Harmony Home Healthcare–especially Isabell. You offered wonderful aid and comfort during his final months. Don's funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the Tooele Middle Canyon Ward Chapel, 777 Skyline Drive, Tooele, Utah. Visitations, Tuesday evening 6 - 8 PM at Tate Mortuary 110 South Main, Tooele, also Wednesday 10:00 - 10:45 at the church. Interment with military honors in the Tooele City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that you call a friend or family member and tell them you love them. Take a meal to someone who needs it, or visit someone who is home bound or suffering.
