Eugene “Gene” Dale Morgan, 79, of Chesterfield, departed this life, Thursday, February 21, 2019.

He was preceded in death by his parents Richard Harvey Morgan, Sr. and Eleanor Brooks Tunnell & siblings, Eleanor Brooks, Ruth Wernell, Elmer Vann, Richard H., Jr. & Roderick T. Morgan. He is survived by siblings Lynn Lindskoog, Carolyn Shearin (Mickey), Lib Matthews, Gerald & Derald Morgan; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Gene is also survived by three loving daughters, Alycia Dale Morgan (Francis O'Donnell) her mother Kathleen Morgan; Geanie Orndorff & Julianna Carl (Justin) & eight grandsons: Jaden, Jackson, & Jase Orndorff; Nash Burkhart; Brooks, Ridge, Trace, & Silas Carl.

Born in rural Nash County, NC, the 6th child of eleven children; he made his way in life at an early age. He graduated from Spring Hope High School, joined the U.S. Army Reserve and subsequently married and moved to Richmond, VA. His independence garnered him a strict work ethic which brought him success, having a long career in the furniture industry, providing exceptional customer service, beginning with David M. Lea & Co., Sears Roebuck & Co., Haverty’s & Ashley Furniture. Wanting to stay active into retirement he worked for Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Midlothian, VA from 2004-2016.

Gene always had a joke or kind word; he never met a stranger. He was adored by his friends who knew he could always be counted on in a pinch. An avid golfer, he was most at home on any golf course. An ambassador for the game he volunteered from 2007-2009 as Marshall/Ranger at First Tee and shot a hole-in-one there in 2008. A plaque bearing his name hangs in their clubhouse. He shot 2 holes-in-one over his golfing career and held a course record for eleven years maintaining a low handicap. Had he not given so selflessly to his family & friends, rather than the game of golf, his talents as a golfer would surely have taken him Pro.
