Obituary


Joseph B. Hendricks, 91, passed away peacefully on Monday June 15, 2020 at his home in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He was born on May 29, 1929 in Lake Butler, Florida to the late Stephen Butler & Ollie (Langford) Hendricks.


Along with his parents, Joe is reunited in death with his sisters, Marie Brooks and Evelyn Paulk; his five brothers John, James, Drew, Harold & Herman Hendricks.


Joe proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserves. He enlisted in October 1950 from Ft. Meade, MD, trained at Ft. Eustis in Virginia and was honorably discharged in December 1951. Following his return to civilian life, Joe went on to work for and retire as Vice President of a Washington DC based Savings & Loan. In his free time and following his retirement, Joe enjoyed playing golf for a number of years in Glen Lakes, FL. He also enjoyed his walks around the neighborhood, loved his flowers and relished sitting on the lanai, screened porch and decks overlooking the ocean. Joe will forever be remembered for his love of his 5 pm bourbon and gingerale, his quick wit and his caring demeanor.


Left to cherish Joe's memory are his wife of 69 wonderful years, Elaine Wilcox Hendricks of Myrtle Beach; daughter Lore (Jim) Jenkins of Myrtle Beach; daughter, Ellen (Frank) Annunziata of Chesapeake, VA; son, John (Debi) Hendricks of Leland, NC; nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; four brothers, Bryan, David, Vernon, Donald and their wives; as well as many, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews all over the United States.


The family wishes to acknowledge with heartfelt appreciation, the wonderful care given by the Hospice Team at Amedisys Hospice. They also thank the many neighbors, friends and family members who assisted in care.


A Celebration of Joe's life will be held in Virginia Beach, VA on June 27, 2020.
