Mary E. Frost, pioneer matron of Forest Grove and Montana, passed away last Wednesday morning, September 21, at her home in Forest Grove. at the age of 81 years, following a long sinking spell.
Mary E. Frost was born in Indiana, April 1, 1846. She came to Montana in 1878. settling first at Helena, where she resided four years, and then moving to Forest Grove, in 1882, at which place she had made her home for the past 45 years.
She married Thomas J. Frost at Centerville. Iowa, before coming to Montana. Mrs. Frost was the mother of eleven children, eight of whom are stilling living, grandmother of fifteen, and great-grandmother of fifteen. Seven of the children were present at the bedside when death came.
The surviving children are Robert, Charles, Thomas, Cedrick and Mrs. Carrie Wright. all of Forest Grove; Mrs. Chilla Snyder of Becket; Mrs. Nellie Hemmaway of Portland, Mrs. Edna M. Shaw, of Becket, Earl Frost of Martinsdale. and Mrs. Stella Burton of Great Falls. In addition to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, the deceased, through her long residence in this section, leaves a great many friends who will mourn her death. Funereal services were held at For- est Grove at 3 o'clock last Friday afternoon, with the Rev. George Hirst, of St. James Episcopal church, officiating.
