Daughter of William Tune & wife Lurana Scurlock Tune of Halifax County, Virginia. Mary's father died circa 1830 & after his estate was settled Mary, her mother & siblings moved to Bedford County, Tennessee where I believe she met and married Clement Nance before his death in 1841 in Ray County, Missouri. Their children were named in the biography of son Thomas Nance as William T., Thomas H., Mary, Reuben & Clement. Daughter Mary and son Clement were not found on the 1850 census with mother Mary.

While in Ray County, Missouri in the January Term 1844 Court we find Mary H. Nance is found "to be of unsound mind and incapable of of managing her affairs". Nathan Schools was appointed her guardian but refused to pay the Bond. In the February Term 1844 Court Mary's brother-in-law Bird Nance was appointed her guardian and the court ordered him to sell Mary's property to the highest bidder. I believe this is when Mary returned to Bedford County, Tennessee, as her son Thomas' bio states he was age seven when he moved to Tennessee.

I believe Mary is buried in the Parsons Cemetery where her sons William & Clement are buried. She was last seen on the 1850 census in District 6, Bedford County, Tennessee with sons William, Thomas & Clement & living next door to her brother John Tune & family.

Rest in peace.

The following biography of their son Thomas gives details of the family of Clement Nance & Mary Tune Nance.

THOMAS NANCE is a son of Clements Nance, of Bedford County, Tenn., who was born in 1810 and spent his boyhood on a farm. He received a practical education, and wedded Mary Tune, daughter of William Tune, of Virginia, and to them were born William T., Thomas, Mary, Reuben and Clement. Three of the children are now living. In 1826 Mr. Nance immigrated to Tennessee, locating near Shelbyville, where he engaged in agricultural pursuits.

In 1833 Mr. Nance went to Missouri and died in Ray County in 1841. Thomas Nance, our subject, was born October 17, 1837, in Missouri. He came to Tennessee when he was but seven years of age, and his early days were spent in laboring on a farm and in attending the common schools of his neighborhood. He began blacksmithing and followed that occupation for about twenty years. In 1872 he moved to where he now resides. December 14, 1859, he wedded Miss Sarah B. Coates, daughter of P. H. Coates, and six children have been born to their union: Thomas H., James E., Julia E., Carrie E., William G. and Martha E., all of whom are living. In 1883 Mr. Nance was elected magistrate of his district and is filling the duties of that office at the present time. Mr. Nance is a Mason, and he and Mrs. Nance are members of the Missionary Baptist Church.
