"WHITMORE RECEIVES FRACTURE OF BOTH LEGS IN ACCIDENT
Stephen Whitmore, employee of J. C. Johnson and Son and city treasurer, sustained severe fractures of both legs, near the ankles, yesterday afternoon about 5:15 o'clock, when the elevator on which he and William Wiegand were fixing the cable dropped three stories. Wiegand caught the side of the elevator when it was falling and in this manner protected himself.

Stephen died 16 days later from pulmonary thrombosis.
