A veteran of the Army, he was a member of the VFW in Northwood, N.H. Alan worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for many years.
After he retired, he worked for the town of Madison, and subsequently Purity Springs/Danforth Bay Camping Resort until his retirement in 2012. He also served as a fire commissioner for the Town of Madison.
He loved his community and enjoyed camping, golfing, listening to bluegrass music, bluegrass festivals and enjoyed watching the Patriots and Red Sox play (and win).
He was predeceased by his parents; his brother Herbert A. Gilman; his sister and brother-in-law Isabel and Bruno Pedulla.
