Edna Mae Newsome, was born March 3, 1935, in Drury, Missouri, one of seven children born to Paul and Elma Skiles. She was raised on her familys timber farm in Drury and attended school at Silver Shade and Dora R-III. She graduated from Mountain Grove High School in 1953. Mrs. Newsome died Aug. 20 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, surrounded by her loving family.

She lived in four different states in her lifetime; Missouri, Kansas, Montana and Florida, and held various jobs, including as a waitress at Rockbridge Rainbow Trout and Game Ranch, a phone operator for Bell Telephone, and a front desk clerk at Holiday Inn. She was always a very busy housewife and mother.

Her hobbies included quilting, sewing and crocheting; she was especially talented at making outfits and accessories for her four children. She loved gardening, berry picking and making tasty cobblers. She was a master at canning and preserving. Family favorites were her homemade applesauce and her delicious red plum jelly. She enjoyed reading the Readers Digest, watching The Price Is Right television show, working crossword puzzles, and playing a fun, competitive game of Scrabble or Yahtzee.

Her family and friends will dearly miss and fondly remember her fiery passion, her love of storytelling, her witty sayings and especially her laughter.

She was preceded in death by her former husbands, Ray Link and Hugh Newsome; also her parents, three brothers: Sterling, Kenneth and Francis, as well as her sister Pauline.

She is survived by four children: Deborah and husband Greg, Larry, Michelle and Tammy, four grandchildren: Tara, Dustin, McKennah and Clynton; three great-grandchildren: Ryan, Sidney and Jacob; two sisters: June and Laveta.

Visitation: Wednesday, August 26, 2015 from 1:00 - 2:00 pm in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel.

Funeral Service: Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at 2:00 pm in the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home.
