Pearl Elizabeth Atkins Strother, 73, of Aroda, departed life on November 25, 2005 at her home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born February 27, 1932 in Louisa, Va. to the late Herbert Jackson Powell and Mary Edith Geer Powell. Pearl was retired from Culpeper Memorial Hospital where she worked as a certified nurse's aide. She was also a member of Oak Grove Baptist church where she sang in the Senior Choir. Pearl spent much of her retirement battling her cancer but still managed to keep her spirits up and hit the local thrift shops when she felt good. Most of all Pearl loved her husband and family more than anything. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband William Adear Strother of Aroda; her son Carlton M. Atkins #153017244 and his wife Arlene of Orange; her son Phillip W. Atkins of Vermont; 7 grandchildren; her sister Jane Carpenter and husband Harold of Madison; her sister Beatrice Powell of Orange; eight great grandchildren as well as a number of nieces and nephews. Proceeded in death by her parents, her sister Ruby Richards and her grandson Devon Phillip Atkins. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 29 at 2 p.m. at the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Oak Park conducted by Rev. Perry Gardner with interment in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Preddy Funeral Home in Madison. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Hospice of Rapidan, PO Box 1715, Culpeper, VA 22701 or Oak Grove Baptist Church, 10823 Lord Chancellor Ln, Bealeton, VA 22712. The family would like to thank The Hospice of Rapidan and care giver Karen Ward for all the help, love and compassion extended to Pearl as well as our family.
