Hazel S. Dawalt, 90, of 365 E. Second St., Bloomsburg, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2007, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where she had been admitted on Saturday. Prior to moving to Second Street in 1989, Hazel lived in R.D.5 Bloomsburg.
Hazel was born June 4, 1917, in Bloomsburg, the daughter of the late Lloyd and Lillian (Stauffer) Shaffer. She was a 1935 graduate of Bloomsburg High School.
On June 1, 1984, she retired from the former Region Oil, where she had been employed for 18 years as a secretary.
She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Bloomsburg, where she was a member of the Women of E.L.C.A. Hazel was a member of Chapter 279 Order of Eastern Star, Bloomsburg Hospital Auxiliary and Lightstreet Garden Club.
Hazel was preceded in death by her first husband, Fred R. Kressler, during World War II; her second husband, Paul K. Dawalt, on Feb. 24, 1965; two sisters: Nora Knouse and Maree Rittenhouse, and a brother: Charles H. Shaffer.
She is survived by a brother: William M. Shaffer, Bloomsburg, and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Friday, Sept. 14, at 11 a.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, 745 Market St., Bloomsburg, with the Rev. Chad Hebrink, interim pastor at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Elan Memorial Park.
At Hazel's request, there are to be no flowers, and memorial contributions are suggested to St. Matthew Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 123 N. Market St., Bloomsburg.
