Iris was the daughter of Rev. Charles Samuel and Martha Jane Howell Watson. Her parents are buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Huntsville in Walker Co, TX. Iris was a retired school teacher. She shares a stone with her husband, Henry William Ward, who she married 11 November 1917 in Anderson Co, TX. She was residing in Elkhart, TX at the time of her death in a Palestine hospital.

OBITUARY: Palestine (TX) Herald-Press, Tuesday, 3 August 1965:

Mrs. Iris Beatrice Ward, who had taught in the Elkhart public schools for many years prior to her retirement, died at 1:55 a.m. today in a local hospital where she was rushed after suffering a sudden illness. She was 70.

Funeral services are to be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the First Methodist Church of Elkhart with the Rev. Collin Furr, the Rev. Kelly Williams and Dr. Charles L. Allen officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories at Elkhart.

An active member of the Elkhart Methodist Church, Mrs. Ward served as program chairman for the Womans Society of Christian Service there and was also chairman of the Membership and Evangelism Commission.

Born in Texas on March 24, 1895, she was the widow of Henry William Ward, who died in 1958.

Pallbearers for the funeral will be Joe Bailey Parker, Francis Day, Eugene Bratz, Grover McDonald, Turner Jones and Roy Howell.

The body will be at Hassell and Foster Home here until carried to the church for services.

Mrs. Ward is survived by a son, Robert Lee Ward of Conroe; two daughters, Mrs. Virginia Eslinbaum of Pasadena and Mrs. Louise Knight of Austin; two brothers, W. T. Watson of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Paul Watson of Boling; three sisters, Mrs. Nola Wilder of Lufkin, Mrs. Bessie Welborn of Fort Worth and Mrs. G. S. Riser of Wharton; eight grandchildren, one great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
