John W Oliver Sr, 52, of 1441 Westmont Rd, SW, a Southern Railway engineer, died unexpectedly Friday at Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Mr Oliver who had been with the railroad 32 years was an engineer on the Atlanta-to-Chattanooga run.

A native of Atlanta, he lived at Cullman, Ala for 15 years as a youth. He returned to Atlanta at the age of 19.

He was a member o the Orange Grove Baptist Church, Cobb County, the Center Hill Masonic Lodge and the Engineers' Brotherhood.

Funeral services will be held at 3 pm Sunday in the chapel of Howard L Carmichael & Sons. The Rev Homer Smith and the Rev Berry Henderson will officiate. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, John W Oliver Jr of Austell and G M Oliver of Atlanta; two daughters, Mrs Stuart Smith of Carrollton and Mrs John Mappin of Decatur; two brothers, Aza Oliver of Anniston, Ala and Jack Oliver of Birmingham, Ala; three sisters, Mrs W O Hyatt, Misses Juanita and Agnes Oliver, all of Cullman, Ala; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
