Christie Friday, 80, of Lorimor, died Monday, August 24, 2020 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.

Celebration of Life Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 28, 2020 at Powers Funeral Home 612 N. Dodge in Afton. Pastor Dwayne Henrichs will officiate. The Service will be Live Streamed on the Powers Funeral Home Facebook Page. Social distancing will be encouraged. Masks are recommended but not mandatory. Burial will be at the Lorimor Cemetery. Open visitation will be 2-7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 27, with family receiving friends from 5-7:00 p.m. Thursday at Powers Funeral Home in Afton. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be determined later for a fitting tribute.

Christie Fay Friday was born June 17, 1940 in Winterset, Iowa to Willard Bruce Flesher and Margaret Anna (Allen) Flesher. She attended school in De Soto and graduated from Winterset High School in 1958. While in high school, she worked at the Madison County Home and continued after graduation.

On February 8, 1959, Christie was united in marriage to David L. Friday in Winterset, Iowa. They briefly lived in Creston and moved and started farming in 1960 south of Lorimor. Christie was a homemaker and farm wife and she also worked at Criss' Food Store in Lorimor. She helped with Lorimor Girls Little League softball, where she coached in the 70's and was also a 4-H leader and was a grandma to many. She enjoyed camping at the Iowa State Fair for over 40 years. Christie was very active on the farm even working on the books and fencing into 2016. She always made sure everyone had a card on special occasions and she never missed a grandkids game over the years. She was a member of the Lorimor Lionells.

Survivors include her son, Rick (Juanita); and a daughter, Kelly (Alan); her niece/daughter, Michelle; her brother, Bud (Dolly); step-sister, Debbie; two sisters-in-law, Mary and Karen (John); seven grandchildren: Curt (Megan), Kristine (Curtis), Ashley (Jon), Jessie (Taylor), Adam (Sheila), Anthony (Kala), Meggen (Jake); neighboring grandkids, Macy & Jayli; and 21 1/2 great-grandchildren.

Christie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David, in 2014; sister, Connie Flesher; and her step-mother, Kay Flesher.
