John was a lifetime resident of Tulsa, graduating from Daniel Webster High School in 1953. He later enlisted in the United States Army, serving from 1954-1956. Upon his discharge, John returned to Tulsa where he married the mother of his children, Dorothy Roland, in 1959. In 1963 he began a career with American Airlines as an airline mechanic. He was employed by American Airlines until his retirement in 1992.
In his spare time, John enjoyed riding anything with wheels, especially dirt bikes, he made many riding/camping trips to the Kiamichi Mountains and Colorado. His other hobbies included camping, fishing, hunting, golfing and just about anything that could be done outdoors.
John was a gentle, generous man, but his red-haired temper could flare-up in an instant. He instilled in his children and grandchildren a great love for the outdoors.
