Obituary for Ernest L. Staples
STAPLES, JR., ERNEST LAMAR passed away on May 19, 2008 after a 17-year battle with cancer. Born in New Orleans on May 19, 1931 to Ernest Lamar Staples, Sr. and Bernadine Bentley Staples. He graduated from Rugby Academy in 1948, Loyola University in 1953 with a Bachelor of Business Finance degree, and LSU in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science Mechanical Engineering degree. Ernest also served our country in the Korean War, 1st Marine Corps Division as a 1st Lt in the Forward Observer Corps for the Artillery Brigade. He was a founding member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Dallas, member of the Knights of Columbus, member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and a lifetime Registered Professional Engineer in Texas and Louisiana. He was an avid instrument-rated pilot and aircraft owner for over 50 years. Most of all, he was a devoted husband, father, brother and friend. His career highlights included Project Engineering Manager for Recognition Equipment, where he held numerous patents for high-speed document sorting equipment, and Group Engineering Manager for Xerox/Diablo Systems in Dallas, where he held patents on the Daisywheel printwheel/print head designs for printers. He then founded and served as the President and CEO of Twix, a computer distribution and services company, until he retired. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, the love of his life and grade school sweetheart, Joyce Ramirez Staples; his 4 children and their spouses David & Susan Staples, Anne Schulze, Mary Jane & Garth Touchstone, and Robert Staples & Eve Law; his only sister, Janet Anne Staples; and his 5 grandchildren Adriane Schulze, Brittany & Megan Touchstone, and Conner & Daphne Staples.
