Siamese prince and accidental drowning victim. A young life taken far too soon. He was a supposed Prince of Siam (now Thailand), being the unborn and unnamed son of King Chulalongkorn (also Rama V) and Queen Consort Sunanda Kumariratana, who was also a half-sister and cousin of the king. He and his mother and older sister drowned when the royal boat capsized while on their way to the Bang Pa-In Royal Palace. Despite the presence of many onlookers, no one was able to help as commoners back then were forbidden by law on pain of death from touching any member of the Siamese royal family, not even to save his or her life. The grief-stricken King Chulalongkorn later erected a memorial to him, his mother and older sister at the Bang Pa-In Palace, and their royal cremation ceremony was performed by the king himself in Sanam Luang. Due to the tragic incident, the law forbidding anyone from touching a Siamese royal has since been repealed. May this beloved child rest in heavenly peace.
