Marian Murphy, 83 of El Dorado, died Monday, June 3, 2002, at her residence following a brief illness.

Mrs. Murphy was born December 29, 1918 in Little Rock, Arkansas. She was the daughter of Thomas and Annie Thornberg Allen. After graduating from Little Rock High School, she was a feature writer for the Arkansas Gazette, and was employed as secretary and office manager for Acme Brick Sales In Little Rock After moving to El Dorado in 1952, for the next 37 years she was office manager at Ace Supply, Ace Contractors and Crown Contractors. She was a 54 year member of the Pilot Club International during which time she, served three terms as president and was instrumental in organizing the Anchor Club at El Dorado High School. She was also named Mother of the Year, for the Anchor Club. Her volunteer service included, Interfaith Clinic, and Armed Forces Communication for the Red Cross. She was a member of Second Baptist Church and had served as president of the Golden Circle Sunday School Class. Mrs. Murphy was also a member of the El Dorado Country Club and former member and president of the El Dorado Racquet Club.

Mrs. Murphy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, R. Wayne Murphy, two brothers, Robert Allen and Edward Allen.

Survivors include, two daughters, Jean Williams and her husband Bobby of El Dorado and Joyce Redmond and her husband, Joe Of Clarksdale, Miss. and one brother, Thomas Allen of Rome, Ga. There are three grandchildren, Missy Wood of Hattiesburg, Miss., Pam Vernon of El Dorado and Joanna McClure of Oxford, Miss. and two great-grandchildren, Kathryn Grace Vernon and Matthew Lanham Wood.

Funeral services will be held today at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Bailey Funeral Home with Rev. Dwain Miller officiating, Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Wood, Trey Vernon, Jeff McClure, Ben McCurry, Joseph Nixon and John Cottrell.

Memorials may be made to Second Baptist Church, 1010 Combs, El Dorado, AR.

The family will be at the Bobby Williams residence, 1112 Cypress, El Dorado.
