Seventeen year old officer.

His brother, William, was killed at the Battle of New Market, where he fought as a V.M.I Cadet along with brother Robert. One of his sisters was the mother of a Governor of Maryland. James enlisted at Gauley Bridge in 1861 and surrendered at Appomattox in 1865.
