A famous writer once said "The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do not expect to sit".

Beatrice Sims' life embodied this philosophy whole-heartedly, as she loved to give to others, never expecting anything in return.

Beatrice was born Beatrice Norma Clark on March 12. 1932 in Sanford, Florida. She was the fourth and last child of Clarence and Nellie Clark. Beatrice did not have a conventional childhood. At the age of two, her father, Clarence, passed away, and ten years later, due to her mother's debilitating illness and later death. Beatrice became the ward of her eldest brother, also named Clarence, and wife Carolyn Clark, who resided in Winter Park, Florida. As Beatrice approached adulthood, she made the decision to leave Winter Park (her reason for leaving, and I quote "Carolyn had too many rules at her house") and headed back to her birth town, Sanford, to live with her Aunt Nora's family.
In 1963, Beatrice married John Sims (died in 1990). Together, they raised seven children, two girls and five boys in Sanford, Florida.
Beatrice was a homemaker. Her children often shared how no amount of money in the world could take the place of coming home from school, and having their mother there to greet them, oftentimes with a homemade treat.

In 1976, she returned to Winter Park, Florida (where she resided until death) and became gainfully employed in various service jobs over the years, finally retiring as the cook for Welbourne Avenue Nursery and Preschool.

1977 was a pivotal year for Beatrice, this is the year she was born again, and became a keeper of God's Holy Seventh day Sabbath. Beatrice remained faithful to the Lord until death. Her last word on Thursday night, August 19th (two days before her passing), was "Amen", as her daughter, Karen Sims, finished a prayer with her by her hospital bedside.

Beatrice enjoyed being in the kitchen. Some of her favorite dishes were: sweet potato pie, macaroni and cheese, and collard greens.
Beatrice shared her love of cooking, not only with family, but generously gave of her talents through missionary work of feeding the hungry/homeless in the 80s and 90s. Beatrice also enjoyed walking, prior to her massive stroke in 2001, which left her partially impaired on her left side. Regardless of her physical limitations. Beatrice remained kind-natured, patient, and ready to help others in any way she could.

Beatrice is preceded in death by her husband, John, her parents and three brothers: Clarence, Manny, and Leroy Clark.
