Elsie Mae Harold, 81, of Stringtown Community, Mannington, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pa.

She was born in Gip, a daughter of the late Fred and Janie Elizabeth Cottrill White.

She retired from Fairmont General Hospital in 1981 after 33 years of service. She was a member of Marion County Senior Citizens Travel Club and of AFL/CIO Local #550. She attended Stringtown United Methodist Church.

Surviving are four daughters, Joan Hayes and Janice Hill, both of Mannington, Karen Martin of Fairmont and Nancy Barker of Fairview; one son, Samuel D. Harold of Sharpsburg, Md.; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including Helena Goodrich of Mt. Zion; two sisters, Dona Vaughan of Front Royal, Va., and Ronnie McCumbers of Nicut; and a close friend, Charlotte Lapinsky of Rachel.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl S. "Shorty" Harold; one daugher, Doris Jean Harold; one grandson, Timothy Lynn Hayes; three sisters; and two brothers.

Services were held at Masters Funeral Home, Mannington, with Rev. E. Gerald Gray officiating. Burial was in Shinnston Masonic Cemetery.
