Police said Clark was playing cards with three friends at the Hacienda hotel, 1614 Soquel avenue, when he got a piece of meat from a steak sandwich caught in his throat. Chief Deputy coroner Pat Kilpatric said strangulation was confirmed as the cause of death.
Mr. Clark was a native of Indiana and a member of the Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butcher Workmen of North America, Local 506. He made his home here at 912 Windham street.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; a step-son, John W. Yantis of Santa Cruz; a granddaughter, Marchelle Yantis of Santa Cruz; his mother, Mrs. Iris Schroeder of Santa Cruz; a sister, Norma Jean Kelly of San Francisco; a step-father, Ray Schroeder and a niece Elie Eileen Rains, both of Santa Cruz.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow in the Ferguson chapel, with the Rev. Harold Blakley of First Methodist church officiating. Private interment will be in IOOF cemetery.
