Harrison County Times (Bethany, Missouri) 23 Sept 1948:
"George French York"
"George French York, son of Rueben and Nancy York, was born in Williams County, Ill., June 11, 1860, and died at his home, near Pawnee, Aug. 22, 1948, age 88 years, two months and 11 days, He spent his early life in Medicine Lodge, Kans., later coming to Missouri and locating near Pawnee."
"He was united in marriage in 1882 to Sarah Emma Tull, and enjoyed her companionship for 63 years. Eight children were born of this union, six of whom survive. His wife preceded him in death in December 1945. Following her death he made his home with his daughter Mrs. Claude Redburn, who gave him every care during his declining years."
"Mr. York was a Biblical student and filled numerous pulpits in this community when the pastor was absent. He was often consulted for Biblical information and his knowledge of the scriptures was amazing. Following failing eyesight, he recognized all by their voices, which was astonishing to those who had been away for some time. He was a good Christian man, and his influence will live on for many years."
"Funeral services were conducted Aug. 25 at Lone Rock church by the Rev. Arthur Lane and burial was in the adjoining cemetery. Music was furnished by Lamoni friends. Pall bearers were Cliff Cisco, Ned McClain, Fred Murphy, Bert Mathes, Harry Burkett and Oran Johnson."
"Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Redburn, Mrs. Myrtle Mathes of Eagleville, Mrs. Belle Pearson of Olathe, Colo., and Mrs. Ella Kable, Cannon City, Colo., and two sons, Lindsey of Bethany and Charles of Eagleville. Two children, Walter and Ethel preceded him in death."

George was the third son of Tennessee native Reuben Wesley York, and Kentucky native Nancy Marion Mulkey York. George was one of eight children, but only 4 of those reached adulthood. The family resided in Williamson County, Illinois where George and his six siblings were born. Reuben and Nancy's eighth child was born in Allendale, Worth County, MO. George's mother died there in 1873. His father married a second time to Nancy J. Pittman, and George gained 4 half-siblings.

George married Sarah Emily Tull on Aug 15, 1882 in Harrison Co., MO. George and Sarah earned their living as farm family. George was described as a very gentle, caring, Christian man. He carved a rolling pin for his wife out of a hickory branch as a wedding present.
