Altie Belle Bowen Snead

Altie Belle, daughter of William and Emily Bowen was born in Harrison County, Mo. on March 9, 1890.
She was the second child of a family of seven. Two sisters preceded her in death – Rena who died in infancy and Cynthia Johnson who died in 1959. Also preceding her in death were her parents and her husband, Floyd Snead, to whom she was married May 15, 1920.
To this union came two children, Everett and Lorraine (Mrs. Bert Guilliams), both of Hatfield, Mo.
Other survivors are 4 grandsons and 4 granddaughters. Also 4 brothers, Otha of Eagleville, Winfield and Ira of Lamoni, and Delbert of Hatfield. She also leaves nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
At an early age, she was baptized into the Church of Reorganized Latter Day Saints.
Several years before her marriage was spent in teaching school – a work to which she was very dedicated.
After her marriage, she devoted her full time to being a good wife and mother.
After an extended illness, she departed this life on April 13, 1967 at the age of 77 years, 1 month, and 4 days.

Altie was a teacher in numerous country schools in Harrison Co., MO and Ringgold Co., IA before she was married and again after her children were grown, last teaching at Lone Rock country school near Hatfield, MO in the late 1940's. Teaching was one of the things she loved to do.
