She died at 16 years of age from blood loss following having a boil on her head lanced. The doctor that performed the procedure left town soon after!

The community was made very sad Thursday morning when the phones gave out the news that Miss Lola Johnston was dead. She was the daughter of Samuel and Eva Johnston. She was a very quiet girl and was a faithful attendant at Lone Rock Sunday School and was the present librarian. She was a favorite among her girl friends and will be sadly missed and was at such a sweet age, just being a little past sixteen years, with all of her life before her, but her sufferings are over. She had a boil on her forehead which resulted in blood-poisoning and caused her death. The funeral was preached Sunday by L.G. Holloway and her her body was laid in the Lone Rock Cemetery.* The flower display was beautiful, the casket being completely covered. A nice bunch was presented by the Freshman class of the Hatfield high school, of which her brother, Evert, is a member.
The Johnston family wishes to thank all their friends and neighbors who assisted so kindly and for all who presented the beautiful flowers during the illness and death of their daughter. They surely appreciate all that was done for them and feel it was done through love and kindness.

* Officially named Payne Cemetery, but often referred to as Lone Rock Cemetery due to the proximity to the Lone Rock Church.
