Funeral Services For John B. Adair Funeral Set For Tomorrow


Funeral services for John B. Adair, 53, Mingo county deputy sheriff who died of a heart attack Sunday afternoon at his home in Delbarton will be conducted from Regular Baptist church, West Delbarton, at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. The Revs. Wallace Maynard and Asa Evans will officiate and burial will follow in Farley cemetery, one mile west of Delbarton.

Active pallbearers will be Deputy Sheriffs Dewey Ferrel, Elmer Cubine, Joe Wayne Hartfield, John Keesee, Dave Johnson, Arnold Lester, Riley Varney, Andy Marcuin, Lee Brewer, and Odis Sizemore.


Deputy Adair was popularly known throughout this county. In addition to his duties as deputy sheriff, he was a merchant, taxi operator and Democratic leader. He was a lifetime resident of Delbarton, and a son of the late William and Elizabeth (Hensley) Adair.


Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Emma Farley Adair; Three children by this marriage, Thurman, Delores Jean, and Glenn Faye, all at home; and the following children from a former marriage, Mrs. Dora Maynard, Mrs. Enoch Fillinger, Mary Bess Adair, Lindsey, William Curtis and James Adair, all of Delbarton.


Also surviving are two brothers, William C. Adair of Delbartonand Noah Adair of Dingess; and five sisters, Mrs. Rosa Evans, Mrs. Martha Chapman, Mrs. Rebecca Maynard, Mrs. Polly Floyd and Mrs. Lilly Floyd

John Adair, died at the age of 52 on May 2, 1948, in Delbarton, W.V.. He was laid to rest on May 5, 1948 in Floyd Cemetery (Adair Cemetery) in Delbarton.


John was born on August 18, 1895, in Kentucky, to Mr. William and Mrs. Elizabeth (Hensley) Adair. He married Miss Sadie Kirk and together they had six children. He later married Miss Emma Beatrice Farley and together they had four children.
