Alice Lavera Hamann, 94, of Gladbrook, Iowa, died on Monday, December 31, 2012, at Westbrook Acres in Gladbrook. Visitation and funeral at Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook. Burial in Maple Hill Cemetery, Gladbrook. Overton Funeral Home, Traer, Iowa, handled the arrangements.

Alice Lavera (Landt) Hamann was born on March 20, 1918, in Crystal Township, Iowa, the daughter of Hanus and Bertha (Luethje) Landt. She attended Spring Creek Country School.

In 1940, Alice married Raymond Hamann, to this union a son, Galen, was born. Alice started working at Westbrook Acres in 1968 and attended school in Marshalltown to earn a LPN license so she could work with the patients. She enjoyed working at Westbrook Acres for forty years.

Alice was a member of Peace United Church of Christ and taught Sunday school for forty years, enjoying the kids in her classroom. Each Christmas, she helped with the Christmas program. She belonged to the Afternoon Woman's Fellowship and was a member and past president of the Ladies Amvets Auxiliary.

Raymond and Alice farmed just northeast of Gladbrook from the time they married until Raymond retired. They moved to Gladbrook in 1978. Alice lived in her house until 2011 when she moved to Westbrook Acres after a fall. She truly enjoyed mowing her lawn on her John Deere tractor, she claimed it made her knees feel better. She also had a pot of coffee ready for anyone.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of over fifty years; two brothers, Laverne in infancy and Leonard in 1992; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She is survived by a son, Galen (Darla) Hamann of Clarksville; a grandson, Jason (Paula) Hamann of Gladbrook; two step grandchildren, Ashley Olson and Matthew Olson; a granddaughter, Jaclyn Sherman; a great-granddaughter, Jordan Sherman; two step granddaughters, Shelly Geweke and Jennifer Pridgen; two step great-granddaughters, Brannigan Coover and Taylor Pridgen; a sister, LaVera Arp of Traer; a brother, Arthur Landt of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
