OBITUARY:
Anchorage Daily News July 1, 2003

Lifelong Palmer resident Ronald Paul Aklestad Jr., 41, died June 28, 2003, of injuries from a motorcycle accident near Sutton. A Scripture service was at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Palmer. The Rev. Leo Desso officiated. Burial was in Valley Memorial Park Cemetery in the Butte, followed by a potluck and celebration of his life at the home of his wife and children in the Butte in Palmer.

Mr. Aklestad was born Nov. 15, 1961, in Palmer to Ronald and Judith Aklestad. He graduated from Palmer High School in 1980. He married his high school sweetheart, Damone Tessier Aklestad April 10, 1982, and they have two children, Jennifer, 20, and Tyler, 17. Mr. Aklestad worked for Matanuska Telephone Association for 22 years as journeyman cable splicer and was an IBEW Local 1547 member. His family wrote: "Ron was a true Alaskan and thrived on all that Alaska had to offer. He was an accomplished pilot, snowmachiner, fisherman and hunter, and enjoyed camping and boating. Ron was a devoted and loving husband, father, son, brother and friend. His passion was his family. He always had time for everyone and went out of his way to help others. He was a mentor to young people and will be sorely missed by many."

Mr. Aklestad is survived by his wife, Damone; daughter, Jennifer; son, Tyler; parents, Ron and Judy Aklestad; maternal grandfather, Willy Mrak; paternal grandmother, Loraine Herman and husband, Fritz Herman; brother, Tom Aklestad; sister and brother-in-law, Britt and Steve Cooper and children, Blake and Rachel; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Marlys and Harley Tessier; sisters and brothers-in-law, Traci and Will Barickman, Trina and Randy Schetzel; sister-in-law, Dorine Tessier; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Arrangements were with Valley Funeral Home and Crematory in Wasilla.
