METROPOLIS, Ill. – William J. Mescher, 90, Metropolis, died Wednesday at Massac Memorial Hospital.
A native of Massac County, he owned and operated the Mescher Grocery store for 48 years until his retirement. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Mescher.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Orpha Mescher; a daughter, Mrs. Wilma Bowlin, Mounds; two grandchildren, Dr. Dan Bowlin, Dongola, and Mrs. Nancy Herman, St. Louis, Mo.; a great-granddaughter; a sister, Mrs. Minnie Baccus, Metropolis, and a brother, Fritz Mescher, Metropolis.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Earl Black will officiate and burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery.
Friends may call at Miller Funeral Home after 6 p.m. today and until 11 a.m. Friday at which time the body will be taken to the church.
