OBITUARY
Thomas N., son of Washington and Nancy Sherrill, was born in Putnam County, Ind., Jan. 17, 1847, deceased May 17, 1907, aged 60 years, 4 months. He was married to Elizabeth A. Rader, Dec. 9, 1869. When a boy 15 years of age, he enlisted in the service of this country in company K 43rd. Regiment, Indiana Volunteers, Sept. 6, 1864, and received an honorable discharge, Aug. 14, 1865. During which time he contracted a chronic trouble which finally caused his death. In the early part of the year 1857 he gave himself unreservably (sic) into the hands of the Lord, while riding along the public highway, but never made a public confession until the Old Beech Grove meeting, when he made a complete surrender of his service to the Lord, and while having been a soldier in the defense of his country, he now enlists as a soldier in the service of his Master by uniting with the Union Valley Church, about the year 1885, and since that has ever been a true and faithful servant of his Master, ever contending for the faith delivered to the Saints of God. He had made full proof of his ministry and was ready to be offered realizing his departure was near at hand.

Surely he fought a good fight, kept the faith, finished his course, and has gone to receive that crown of righteousness which the Lord has promised. He was set apart to the full work of the ministry July 29, 1893, while he had been a continual sufferer from his army trouble, his suffering has been most extensive during the past year, and during all this his constant theme has been telling to his friends the joy, and glory there is in the service of his Master and of praying for the church, his neighbors and for the victory that overcometh the world.

In his death the church loses a great benefactor and devoted member the community a noble citizen and the home a faithful and loving companion. He leaves a loving wife, three sisters and a host of relatives and friends to mourn his demise, yet we are made conscious of the fact that what is our loss is his eternal gain.

Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord.

Interment and funeral services at New Providence; funeral conducted by Rex. (sic) John Cox, Homes, Gill and others.

A gentle voice now is hushed,
A warm true hear is still,
And on thy loving tender brow
Is resting death's cold chill.
The hands are clasped upon thy breast,
We have viewed the lovely brow.
And in our aching hearts we know
We have no companion now.
"This hard to break the tender cords
When love has bound the heart,
"Tis hard, so hard, to speak the words
"We must forever part."
But dearest loved one we must lay thee
In the peaceful grave's embrace,
But they memory will be cherished
"Til we meet in heaven's place.
