A memorial service is planned for family and friends of Ada Shaw, 89, of Chico, on Wednesday, July 09, 2014 at Brusie Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00am. A visitation will be held on Tues., July 8th at the Brusie Funeral Chapel from 5pm till 8pm. Ada passed away on June 30, 2014, in Chico, California. She was born on May 07, 1925, in Mt. View, Kiowa Co., Oklahoma. Ada was predeceased by her eight brothers and sisters, of whom she was the fifth: Dick Eitel, Eula Branham, Arlene Page, Doyle Eitel, Pearl Hubbard, Pauline Wright, William Eitel, and Patrica Anderson. Along with her beloved mother, Cora Eitel, Ada and her siblings moved to California in the 1930's. She graduated from Sutter High School at the age of 16, after which, with much pride, she graduated from Chico's Golden Empire College of Commerce at the age of 17. Ada married the love of her life, Chester "Chet" Shaw, in 1945. They met while he was stationed at the Chico Army Air Corp Base during WWII, while she worked at the Chico Ration Board. Chet and Ada raised two daughters, Sandy and Jean, in Chico and Paradise. Chet and Ada loved to golf and travel the world together. They were charter members of the Butte Creek Country Club, and Ada served as President of the Bidwell Women's Golf Club for more than one year. Chet predeceased Ada in 1988. Ada led an active life. She was involved in her daughters' school activities: such as, a volunteer for PTA, Camp Fire Girls, as room mom, chaperone, and wherever she was needed. Ada's large family and many friends were most important to her, and she was a great hostess and event planner. She enjoyed hosting gatherings in her home in Chico, then later in Paradise: weddings, showers, family reunions, and parties, such as, the Annual Miller's Market Christmas Party where Chet was General Manager. She represented Paradise as their Welcome Wagon Hostess for eight years. Ada is survived by her two daughters and their husbands: Sandra and Daniel Liechty of Murphys, and Jean and Bill Sheehan of Chico. She is also survived by her three grandsons: Joshua Liechty of Angel's Camp, John and his wife, Stephanie Liechty of Angel's Camp, and Jameson Sheehan of Chico. She will be forever loved and missed, and will especially be remembered for her smile, her sense of humor her independent nature, and her love for family and friends. Arrangements are under the direction of Brusie Funeral Home. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.brusiefh.com. Donations in Ada's memory may be made to the Northern California and Northern Nevada Alzheimer's Association Chapter, or a charity of choice.
