Hubert Ellsworth Rodgers was the son of Effie Louise (nee Skidmore) and Hubert Ellsworth Rodgers, Sr. born May 31, 1922 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He had two sisters Alice Louise (1921-1988) and Margaret Ellen (1924-1990).

Hubert and sisters where raised by their mother and step-father Anthony W McIver in San Antonio, Texas. After high school graduation he enlisted in the United States Army at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas, Service No. 18011146. He was initially placed with the Army Corps of Engineers and later transferred into the Army Air Forces.

On June 1, 1943 Hubert married Evelyn Elizabeth Mooney in California. She was born April 2. 1920 in Butte, Montana. They had one child during their marriage. She died March 7, 2002 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Hubert advanced to the rank of sergeant and was a gunnery instructor with the 479th School Squadron, Harlingen Army Air Field, Harlingen, Texas. During January 1945 Hubert transferred into the 3rd Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron (3 PRS), Very Long Range (VLR), 311th Photographic Reconnaissance Wing.

In February 1945 Hubert and his crew deployed to Guam, Mariana Island with their brand new Boeing F-13A Reconnaissance Superfortress (a modified B-29 bomber) as a replacement aircraft and crew for the 3 PRS, 311 Wing, 21st Bomber Command, 20th Air Force operating from Harmon/Depot Field Guam.

On March 3, 1945 Hubert now holding the rank of corporal and Sgt Charles E Watkins were drowned at Tumon Bay located on the northwest coast of Guam. They were drowned trying to save from drowning, two enlisted men who were in trouble beyond the reef. Both men were buried at the military cemetery at Agat, Guam with full military honors. The Solders Medal was presented posthumously.

On May 17, 1948 The remains of Cpl Hubert Ellsworth Rodgers were repatriated to the United States onboard the USAT Albert M. Boe which docked at San Francisco, California. At the direction of his widow Evelyn Rodgers permanent interment was made at Calvary Cemetery, Los Angeles.
