In A Pitiable Condition
The Hand od Affliction Rest Heavily On the Frisbies-Three Deaths in One Month and Remainder of Family Are Down With Smallpox.
The family of Mr. Albert F. Frisbie, ;iving in the northwestern portion of the city, is in a pitiable condition. Three times during the past four weeks has grim Death stalked in and claimed his own. Three times during the past four weeks have the heartbroken parents been called upon to look for the last time upon the pallid faces of their children, as their frail little bodies were placed in their coffins and cartege away to the cemetery without cortege or mourners save those for whom that dread disease-smallpox-had no terrors.
For the past five or six weeks the entire family has been down with smallpox, and in several cases that disease had been augmented with mumps or whooping cough.
Their condition was brought to the attention of the charity committee of the city, and a prompt response was made. The committee, as well as private parties, have done everything that was possible in the way of providing attention and food. An immune nurse was also provided.
The first death to occur was that of an infant, which died about four weeks since.
The next death was that of a boy about 12 or 14 years of age, he having been a victim of the smallpox, his death occurring about three weeks ago.
This morning the third victim was claimed by that dreaded disease, a little boy about 10 years of age, who had been sick for some time. His interment will take place this afternoon at the Public cemetery.
Another child who is said to be suffering with both smallpox and whooping cough, is reported very low and scarcely liable to recover.
