ANDREW NEARHOOF: Date of Birth - At the Nearhoof Cemetery, Andrew's gravestone shows he died November 27, 1871 at the age of 70 years 1 month 9 days. Thus his calculated date of birth is October 18, 1801. "Farwwll my friends, I cannot stay. The home I seek is far away. Where Christ is not, I cannot b. This land is not the land for me."
WRONG INFORMATION IN CIRCULATION - Please note that on the Internet and in some descendants records, Andrew's date of birth is given as July 18, 1801. I believe this mistake occurred when Donald Duane Nearhoof (born June 11, 1933) recorded in error the information from Andrew's gravestone. He read the age at death on Andrew's gravestone as 4 months instead of 1 month. I contacted Donald when I realized that he was providing others with the wrong information on Andrew's birth. He acknowledged that he had made a mistake when he read the age on the gravestone as 70 years, 4 months, and 9 days and thus calculated Andrew's birth month as July instead of October. When I pointed out this error to him, he promptly corrected his records. However, it has not been possible to determine all who have received this wrong information; thus this error will probably continue to surface.
