Carlene Ille Paige McDonald

Newfield - Carlene Ille Paige McDonald, 79, of Newfield, formerly of Elmira Heights, died November 29, 2018. Daughter of Russell and Zdenka Liskovec Paige. Carlene was an accomplished artist, talented seamstress, embroiderer and cook. She was known as a true friend. Evidence of her friendship were the bulging walls of the dining rooms at Borg-Warner when she retired as a quality control person.

Snow marked the end of happy summer days spent at Cayuga Lake cottage in riding her horse Reno at Family Farms in Big Flats and Gillett, PA. Friends were always welcome at the home she created in 1973 in Newfield for the two sons she loved so much and their pets, Brutus the spunky dog and Catfish the independent cat. Stolen moments found her deep into the books stacked on the shelves lining the walls of her home.

She is survived by sons Kevin McDonald and his wife Nancy of Bay Point, CA and Kelly McDonald at home; sisters Marilyn Wolf of Rochester, Greta Bozinis of Horseheads, Janis Williams of Big Flats; two nieces and six nephews; special friends Carol French of Owego and Paul and Dawne Cowles of Newfield; ex-husband Gary McDonald and his wife Eileen of Elmira.

Gone too soon are these people in her life: John Henry Roy, Jr., close friend and Thomas A. Edison High School classmate; Uncle Fred Lescovec who gave her hand in marriage and always lovingly called her Corky; cousins Kenny and Mary Golden.

Love and kindness are her legacy. Her life will be celebrated at a private family ceremony held at Webbs Mills Cemetery.

I'M FREE

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free,

I'm following the path God laid for me.

I took his hand when I heard his call,

I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day,

To laugh, to love, to work, to play.

Tasks left undone must stay that way,

I've found that peace at the close of the day.

If my parting has left a void,

Then fill it with remembered joy.

A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,

Ah yes, these things I too will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow,

I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.

My Life's been full, I savoured much,

Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch,

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief,

Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.

Lift up your heart and share with me,

God wanted me now, He set me free.
