Obituary for Doris Allen McIntyre
Mrs. McIntyre passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2020. Born March 25, 1933, in Kannapolis, NC, she was the daughter of the late Lee R. and Lucille Allen of Kannapolis, NC. Mrs. McIntyre retired from Civil Service at Fort Jackson, SC, where she served as the secretary at the Drill Sergeant School for 20 years. She was one of the first two people to be awarded the Department of the Army Commander’s Award for Civilian Service at Fort Jackson. Mrs. McIntyre was a member of Woodfield Park Baptist Church, where she served in many capacities from teaching the Friendship Sunday School class, Church Clerk, Finance Committee, Greeter, and led the Women on Missions Group for many years. She also led a group that did volunteer mission work at two adult daycare centers. Mrs. McIntyre was a very loving and caring person who always shared with her friends and family. She loved God, her children, and her church.

Doris and her late husband enjoyed many years of traveling overseas and in the United States during his 22 years in the US Army. They enjoyed camping with family and friends. After his military retirement, they enjoyed spending time at their lake house at Lake Wateree with many family members and friends. They both loved the outdoors and enjoyed the boating, fishing, and the fish fries they had with loved ones, friends, and neighbors.

Mrs. McIntyre was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Wade M. McIntyre; her parents; and her brother, Harold D. Allen.

Survivors include her sons, James Michael (Cheryl) McIntyre of Callahan, FL; Dwight Lee (Martha) McIntyre of Elgin, SC; brothers, Robert L. (Rosalyn) Allen, of Charlotte, NC, Steve R. (Karen) Allen of Concord, NC; and sister-in-law, Janet Allen of California; grandsons, Jason (Misty) McIntyre of Lugoff, SC, Micah (Jennifer) McIntyre of Callahan, FL and Ryan (Whitney) McIntyre of Elgin, SC; ten great- grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Doris Allen McIntyre will be held at 1:00 p.m., July 31, 2020, at Woodfield Park Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jeff Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 o’clock at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Woodfield Park Baptist Church, 1834 Morninglo Lane, Columbia, SC 29223. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
