Son of Samuel Watson and Serena Minerva Ann Harper of Mecklenburg County, Virginia. He was born at home on Flat Creek near Tanner's Store in Mecklenburg in 1865. He married Janie Inez Cobb, daughter of Henry Harrison Cobb and Sarah Jane Fox of Southampton County, Virginia. He was manager of the box factory in Capron, Southampton County, Virginia where were born several of his children. He and his wife later moved their family about 1895 where he worked for William Crumpler Lumber Co., who owned the Box Factory in Capron, and finally at Planter's Nut & Chocolate Co. until his death. For a period while his wife was ill, they returned to Capron to be near her doctor. At her death he returned to Suffolk.
