He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion, Brewster Gould-Lee Post 25 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was the vice president and trustee of the Newport Savings Bank and a member of the Newport Chamber of Commerce, St Patrick parish and the Burlington Knights of Columbus.
He married Ines Lausi on May 8, 1943 in Tempe, AZ.
He is survived by his wife Ines (Lausi) Ferriter; two sons James P Ferriter II who is serving in the armed forces in Vietnam and Thomas J Ferriter of Newport; his father James P Ferriter of Brattleboro; a brother Dr William B Ferriter of Claremont; two sisters Catherine Rogers and Elizabeth Ferriter both of Brattleboro; three nieces and four nephews.
Burial is in St Patrick's Cemetery.
