Lila was the daughter of Penn Lafayette and Etta Lee Bearden Chitwood. She first married John William Clark on 28 Jan 1933, and they had twin sons. John and Lila were divorced in 1938, and she second married George Alan Brown. Alan and Lila owned and operated Five and Dime stores in Colorado City, Sweetwater and Commerce, Texas. After Alan's death in 1973, Lila moved back to Jacksonville. She loved her church, her family and serving as a Pink Lady at Nan Travis Hospital where she had begun working as a nurse's aide in her youth.
